Hazlehurst Print

Maria Walker
Maria Walker is contemporary artist who has just emerged from obtaining a MA in Fine Art from the University of Chester, where her main area of concern has been to explore the use of textile practice in a fine art concept. Her practice- based research explored the sensuous qualities of textiles and its association with the body and the haptic.
Her earlier work explored the concept of memory, nostalgia and forgetting through a combination of embroidery, illustration, digital imagery, print and found objects. She is particularly interested in telling the stories of ordinary people, which are often overlooked by historians, especially those of women.
Maria is an artist at Cross Street Arts and is member of the North West artists group Markmakers. She also runs workshops and gives talks to groups.
